What data the app uses and why

DataWhyWhere it goes
Your location (only if you allow it) To find the nearest city and show its prayer times, and to show the direction of the Qibla and the distance to Makkah. Sent to the RiseOnTime prayer-time service to look up the times. The Qibla direction and distance are calculated on your phone. While the Qibla compass is open, the app follows your position so the direction stays correct. Your phone's own map service (Apple) may also be used to show the name of your city.
Your phone's compass direction To turn the Qibla compass as you turn your phone. Read and used only on your phone while the Qibla compass is open. It is never sent anywhere.
A city you type in yourself To list matching cities and show their prayer times. The text you type is sent to the Open-Meteo city search service. The chosen city is sent to the RiseOnTime prayer-time service.
Settings and saved prayer times To remember your choices and work offline. Stored only on your phone.
Technical data in internet requests (IP address, time of request, app version, device type) Sent automatically when the app connects to a service, for example to load the daily content or check for app updates. The services listed below.

Prayer notifications are scheduled on your phone. The app does not use a push-notification server and does not collect a notification token.

Services the app connects to

  • RiseOnTime prayer-time service: finds the nearest city and returns its prayer times. It runs on Supabase, a hosting provider. It may use OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to turn coordinates into a place. We do not store your location in our database.
  • Open-Meteo (geocoding-api.open-meteo.com): city search.
  • alquran.cloud: the daily Quran verse.
  • jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net), hosting the open hadith-api: the daily hadith.
  • AlAdhan (api.aladhan.com): the daily name of Allah.
  • Expo (EAS Update): delivers app updates.

Requests for the daily content and app updates contain no personal information apart from the technical data any internet request carries. Each service handles that data under its own privacy policy. Hosting providers may keep short-lived technical logs to run and secure their services.

How long data is kept

Data on your phone stays there until you delete it. You can clear it under Menu → Privacy & Data → Clear local data, or by deleting the app. We do not keep a copy of your location or settings.

Transfers outside the EU

Some of the services above may process data outside the EU/EEA, for example in the United States. Where this happens, it is covered by safeguards such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. Because we do not keep personal data about you, most requests can be met by clearing the app's data on your phone. You can always contact us at support@riseontime.dk.

You can also complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet), www.datatilsynet.dk.
